Feb 20-23 updates :)

Feb 20th:

Today was a great day for Jett. Periodically, the doctors have been weaning Jett down on the ventilator. He has tolerated it well with little to not much struggle. Doctors are hoping to have him off ventilator by end of weekend. Jett has been getting some of mom's breast milk via feeding tube and have even been giving it to him on qtips for oral care. He sucked on the qtips today which is a greatsign. There has been no sign of any bleed on the brain, which is typical for such preemies. His color looks great and has had no elevated signs of needing his LED lights for jaundice or buildup of red blood cells. He is such a fighter, strong for such a little guy. He currently is 1lb 10.1 oz and holding his own. Doctors and nurses are very impressed, though we all know there might be some hurdles yet. We are all very surprised at his endurance and progress. Eva and Travis have been doing well too and are fighters just as much as their son. They're working as a team and have been very blessed to have each other and their newest love, Jett. Mommy and daddy have started to participate in his "cares": diaper changes, temp checks, bedding change:,which makes their connections stronger. Please have continued prayers and well wishes for this family. I am incredibly proud of them and look forward to when they can hold him! (Kimberly)

Feb 21st:
Despite having a breathing and feeding tube through his mouth, our little sunshine took his first pacifier today and suckled on it for a few minutes! How exciting! Made our hearts melt watching him sooth himself to sleep. And we couldn't stop giggling at the site of the smallest paci we have ever seen! Lol.
Jett was also bumped to 2 cc's of breastmilk today instead of 1 cc and is digesting it like a champ!
All in all it's been a quiet day for him. Lots of sleeping is taking place and Jett is learning to breath on his own, soon we will say goodbye to that breathing vent and I know he cannot wait! Keep us in your prayers as we continue to watch our son grow outside of the womb (:  ~~Eva

Feb 23rd:
Just received a call from the doctor-Jett is dealing with a bump in the road, please keep him in your prayers. I know he is fighting hard but dealing with some challenges.
Jett was diagnosed with ammonia today and is being put on antibiotics to treat it. This is common in preemies with a breathing and feeding tube which causes difficulty digesting food and swallowing saliva. Because of this, Jett's right lung has collapsed, in turn, making it very difficult to breathe. The doctors decided to bump up his oxygen so that Jett doesn't have to breathe for himself in order to let the lung expand and heal.
Lastly, Jett did receive a blood transfusion late yesterday to bring his red blood cells back up to normal.
He is doing OK this evening but we still ask that you continue to pray for our little man.
Just a small bump in this long, winding road… ~~Eva
